Complete Coach Information For Coach Oshida
Head Coach - Girls 14 National Edge
This is Phil’s ninth consecutive year of coaching junior girls. Last year, he co-coached the BRYC 16's National Team, and has coached 14's teams six of the previous eight years.
As a coach, Phil emphasizes doing the right thing at the right time in the right way. He considers coaching to be a privilege and a terrific opportunity to help young players learn about volleyball skills, mental preparedness, leadership, communication, supporting teammates, and loving the game. He has great fun helping his players improve during the season and seeing their joy as they master new skills. Coaching 14's is especially enjoyable because the players are enthusiastic and improve so quickly. For most 14s, there is a tangible goal of playing high school volleyball next fall.
Phil plays USAV adult mens B/BB volleyball with Greg McIntyre and is a member of a senior mens volleyball team that finished in second place in their age group at the US Adult Open Volleyball Championships in Louisville, Kentucky.
Phil will co-coach with Greg McIntyre and Caitlin Oshida (Phil's daughter). They coached the BRYC 14's National Team two years ago and look forward to coaching together again. Phil and Greg have been friends for many years and play on volleyball teams together. Both coaches are of “one mind” when playing together, which makes for an effective coaching and teaching duo. Their goals are to help the girls love the game and acquire the skills to excel in volleyball.
Phil is part of a volleyball family. Phil and his wife of 35 years, Sandy, met while playing recreational volleyball at California State University Long Beach. Their daughters Caitlin and Macara played volleyball for the University of Mary Washington and BRYC/Woodson High School, respectively.
Phil is employed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where he works to protect the Nation's drinking water.
Coach Oshida is IMPACT and CAP II certified.
